2012 PROPOSED PRIORITIES AND GOALS
TAKE THE CHALLENGE!

Help stop discrimination against people with disabilities. Please let us know what you think. We are seeking public input for our 2012 priorities and goals.

We need your help to determine the specific disability issues to be addressed, and the types of advocacy services that Disability Rights Center of Arkansas will provide over the coming year. To find out more about our services, programs and projects, please contact us or check our website.

The public comment period will run from June 13, 2011 thru August 1, 2011.

DRC Priority 1. Protection & Civil Rights - People with disabilities will be protected from abuse, neglect and the unnecessary use of restraint and seclusion and will receive quality support services, rights protection, and be empowered to make choices.

Priority 1. Goal 1. DRC will assist people with disabilities in institutions, community settings, psychiatric programs and educational settings in advocating receipt of services and supports in a safe environment

DRC Priority 2. Community Integration - Services and supports for people with disabilities will be integrated within the community to the maximum extent possible, as required by state and federal law.

Priority 2. Goal 1. DRC will assist people with disabilities in advocating access to home and community based services and assistive technology.

DRC Priority 3. Housing and Access - People with disabilities will have full programmatic and physical access to programs and services of local and state government, to housing, jobs, and to places of public accommodation as provided by state and federal law.

Priority 3. Goal 1. DRC will assist people with disabilities to advocate removal of barriers to housing, places of public accommodation, and state and local government in order for them to have equal access under the law.

DRC Priority 4. Employment - Beneficiaries of SSDI or recipients of SSI will not experience barriers to employment, people with disabilities who have a right to services under the federal Rehabilitation Act will not face discrimination due to their disabilities.

Priority 4. Goal 1. DRC will provide disability rights advocacy for people with disabilities who have a right to services under the federal Rehabilitation Act.

Priority 4. Goal 2. DRC will review and investigate any complaint of improper or inadequate services provided to a beneficiary with a disability by a service provider, employer, or other entity except SSA, involved in the beneficiary's return to work effort.

DRC Priority 5. Education - Disability rights advocacy will be provided for children and youth with disabilities to enforce and protect their rights to special education and related services.

DRC Priority 6. Outreach, training, information and policy advocacy - People with disabilities, their families, support networks, providers, policy makers, and the community at large will be informed about rights of individuals with disabilities and Disability Rights Center of Arkansas.

Priority 6. Goal 1. DRC will inform people with disabilities of their legal rights at trainings conducted by DRC and other organizations. Training may also be provided to service providers and other organizations.
